
Chris Givin Homers Twice as Xavier Tops Cincinnati, 11-2

Senior shortstop finishes with a career-high six RBI
CINCINNATIÂ -Â Xavier baseball jumped ahead early and never let go of the lead, topping Cincinnati, 11-2, at Marge Schott Stadium on Thursday evening. Xavier moves to 24-28 overall with a pair of games remaining, both against Cincinnati, before beginning BIG EAST Tournament action.
Xavier posted four-run innings in the first and second, and added another in the third to take a 9-0 lead. Cincinnati scored a pair in the fourth to cut it to 9-2, which held through the sixth inning, when the game went into a roughly hour and a half rain delay. When play resumed, the Musketeers came out swinging, hitting two home runs in the seventh to put the Musketeers back up nine, 11-2, setting the final score.
Game two of the three game series is set for tomorrow evening at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. Parking, admission and concessions are all free.

FIRST INNING |Â A lead-off triple for Conor Grammes put a runner in scoring position for Jake Shepksi, who singled through the left side to bring Grammes home and put the Musketeers up, 1-0, on two pitches. Allbry Major was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard for Chris Givin with one out. Givin homered to right field to bring three runs in, putting Xavier ahead, 4-0.
SECOND INNING |Â Conor Grammes singled through the right side to give the Musketeers a base runner with one out. Jake Shepski doubled to left field to send Grammes to third. With two runners in scoring position, Allbry Major singled up the middle to bring both home, putting Xavier ahead, 6-0. Matt Warkentin walked to put two runners on, and Major and Warkentin moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Chris Givin hit a single up the middle to score both, putting Xavier ahead, 8-0.
THIRD INNING |Â With two outs, Conor Grammes doubled to right center, followed by a double for Jake Shepski to bring Grammes home and put the Musketeers ahead, 9-0.
SEVENTH INNING | After a lengthy rain delay, Chris Givin led off the inning with a homer over the left field wall, his second of the game, to put Xavier ahead, 10-2. After a fly out, Luke Franzoni set the ball over the right field wall to put Xavier ahead, 11-2.

- After the rain delay, Matt Kent came out to pitch the seventh, pitching 3.0 innings, not allowing a run on three hits and two walks. Kent struck out four, including all three batters he faced in the ninth. Kent is credited with the save.
