MASON, Ohio - Damien Richard went a career-long eight innings and matched his career-high in strikeouts (9), but the Musketeers were held scoreless as St. John's picked up a 2-0 BIG EAST Tournament opening win over Xavier. The Musketeers moved to 25-30 on the year, while the Red Storm improved to 31-21.
The BIG EAST Tournament is being held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, on May 23-26.

- Senior Damien Richard made his team-leading seventh start of the season on Thursday night. The RHP tossed a career-high 8.0 innings, while matching his career high in strikeouts with nine. The Versailles, Ohio, native surrendered 10 hits and one run (unearned) in the outing.
- Sophomore Trevor Olson pitched 0.2 innings of relief for Richard. He threw two strikeouts and allowed one hit and one run.
- Freshman Nathan Berg pitched the final 0.1 innings, surrendering one hit with one walk.
