CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer continues its homestand on Monday, Sept. 2 against Eastern Illinois. First touch is set for 7 p.m. from the XU Soccer Complex.

• The Panthers dropped their season opener at Evansville, 3-1, on Friday, Aug. 30. Alex Castaneda scored the lone goal, while Jonathan Burke made four saves between the pipes in 90 minutes of action.
• Eastern Illinois was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Panthers posted a 3-11-4 (1-2-2) record last season. Eastern Illinois returns 2018 All-Summit League First Team Selection, Edgar Mesa. The midfielder played and started in all 15 matches last season.

• Xavier trails the all-time series, 1-2-1. The Musketeers won the last meeting between the schools, 8-0, on Aug. 28, 2015. The match was the season opener for the Musketeers.

LAST TIME OUT

• Xavier defeated No. 2/3 Akron, 2-0, on Friday, Aug. 30 in the team's season opener.

• Freshman Karsen Henderlong and senior Samson Sergi both scored a goal in the win. Sergi moved his career goal total to 20, four goals shy of moving into the all-time top-10 for career goals at Xavier.

• Matthew Rosenberg (1-0) made six saves in goal in his first career start with the Musketeers. The redshirt-junior has now posted eight career shutouts during his college career (transfer from Central Florida).

• Head coach Andy Fleming moved to 5-3-2 record in season openers following the win over No. 2/3 Akron. The Musketeers have gone 6-4 in home openers during that span.

• The win over No. 2/3 Akron was the highest ranked home victory in program history. The highest ranked opponents to play at Xavier prior to Akron were ranked No. 6 nationally: Kentucky on Sept. 11, 2018 (T, 0-0) and No. 6 Creighton on Oct. 18, 2014 (T, 1-1).

• Xavier signed the No. 7 ranked recruiting class in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The class consists of nine true freshmen and two transfers (Ryan Bellavance, Matthew Rosenberg).

• Xavier returns All-BIG EAST Freshman Team selection in Taylor Crull. The Carmel, Ind., native made all 19 starts at center back and helped the team post five shutouts.

• Xavier has had 21 players earn All-BIG EAST honors since joining the conference (7 First Team Honorees, 7 Second Team Honorees, 7 All-Freshman Team Honorees). • Coach Fleming is one win shy of his 100th head coaching victory. He is the winningest coach in program history with a 99-54-30 (.623) record.

• Coach Fleming has led the Musketeers to four NCAA Tournament appearances. The Musketeers made the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

• Senior Samson Sergi was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The Ashburn, Va., native, was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team last season after leading the team in goals (9), while adding three assists.

NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE NOTES

• The Musketeers will play five of their eight non-conference matches at home. The Crosstown Derby against Cincinnati will be played at Nippert Stadium on Sept. 6.

• Xavier has posted a 33-21-12 (.591) non-conference record since 2013. The Musketeers have recorded an 19-6-4 (.724) record at home in those matches.

XU SOCCER PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Xavier men's soccer has reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the last nine seasons.

• The Musketeers have won 10 or more matches in seven of the last nine seasons.

• Xavier was the only program in the nation with five consecutive major conference awards from 2012-16, including 2016 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Cory Brown.

• XU has qualified for six consecutive BIG EAST Championships, including trips to the title game in 2014 and 2017.

• XU has been ranked in the nation's top-10 three times in the last six years by the United Soccer Coaches.
