CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer dropped its BIG EAST home opener, 2-1, on Friday night against Marquette. The Musketeers moved to 4-3-1 (0-2 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improved to 4-3-1 (1-1 BIG EAST).

SCORING RECAP

59' | XAVIER | Sophomore Taylor Crull scored his first career goal to give the Musketeers the 1-0 lead. The defender scored from the right off a throw in from the left by Cameron Belle.

65' | MARQUETTE | Josh Coan tie the match at one by scoring off a 1v1 situation set up on a long pass from AJ Franklin.

77' | MARQUETTE | Christian Marquez scored the game winning - his second goal of the season - just outside the goal on the left. The play was set up off a cross from Connor Alba.

NOTABLE

• Sophomore defender Taylor Crull scored his first career on Friday night. Classmate Cameron Belle recorded his second assist of the year and the sixth of his career.

• Senior Samson Sergi led the Musketeers with five shots (two on goal). Marquette posted four more shots (16-12) than Xavier.

• The Golden Eagles also had two more corner kicks (4-2) than Xavier and committed eight more fouls (17-9).

• The Musketeers moved to 20-7-5 at home since the start of the 2016 season.
