Women's Tennis Opens Spring Schedule Saturday

CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis returns to action this weekend on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19 as they take on Purdue, Mississippi State and Dayton. The match against Purdue is set to begin at 11 a.m. in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Musketeers will then return home to Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club to take on Mississippi State at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed by Dayton 6 p.m.
Xavier will look to build upon a historic 2018-19 season in which the Musketeers finished 22-3, going a perfect 8-0 in BIG EAST Conference play. The Musketeers were undefeated at home last season and matched a school record with 22 wins. Xavier also set a school-record 20 consecutive wins and advanced to the Championship Round of the BIG EAST Tournament for just the third time in school history.

THE OPPONENT: PURDUE |
- The Musketeers will play at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana.
- The Boilermakers finished last season with an 11-13 record, including a 5-4 record at home.
- Purdue picked up two wins against BIG EAST opponents last season, defeating DePaul and Butler on Jan. 19.
- Purdue fell to No. 17 ranked Michigan in the second round of the BIG 10 Tournament last year, 0-4. They finished with a 5-6 record in conference play.

THE OPPONENT: MISSISSIPPI STATE |
- Xavier will host Mississippi State for their first home match of the season.
- Mississippi State ended the 2018-19 season with a 14-13 record and went 2-8 on the road.
- They fell to Texas A&M in the second round of the SEC Championships after defeating Auburn in the opening round.
- MSU's Emma Antonaki qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships but fell in the opening round. Antonaki will be a Sophomore in 2020

THE OPPONENT: DAYTON |
- Xavier defeated Dayton, 7-0, last season on March 1. This extended their win streak to five matches in a row.
- In 13 matches dating back to 2006, Xavier is undefeated against Dayton in Dual action. The Musketeers are 7-0 at home and 6-0 at Dayton.
- The Flyers finished last season with a 4-21 record and went 0-16 on the road. They ended the season with a 13-match losing streak.
