Dewey Signs Agreement with Real Betis Féminas in Seville
SEVILLE, Spain – After closing out an outstanding college career by leading Xavier women's soccer through a record-breaking season, Samantha Dewey will continue her playing career professionally, signing an agreement with Real Betis Féminas in Seville, Andalusia, Spain.
Dewey, a midfielder/forward from Fairland, Ind., started in all 23 matches for the Musketeers during her red-shirt senior season. She led the squad on offense with 30 points on 13 goals, including four game-winners, as well as four assists. Her 13-goal season will go as the fourth most in a single season in program history while the team's 43 goals scored are the second most in program history.
Dewey capped off her career by earning a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team. She was also a unanimous selection to the 2019 All-BIG EAST First Team and was named to the USC All-East Region First Team after leading the Musketeers as the program won its first regular season conference title, first BIG EAST Tournament Championship and first NCAA Tournament match, while a program-best 17 wins.
Dewey has been a major offensive threat throughout her Xavier career, leading the Musketeers on offensive in each of her four full seasons and earning All-BIG EAST honors following each of those seasons. She finished her career with 103 points on 40 goals and 23 assists. She was also named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and earned a spot on the USC All-East Region Third Team following the 2018 season.
In addition to her work in the classroom and on the field, Dewey was also honored for her work in the community, earning a spot on the 2019 Senior CLASS Award® Second Team for women's collegiate soccer. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
So excited for Samantha Dewey, who is continuing her soccer career for @RealBetisFem in Spain!
