Baseball Falls at Baylor on Friday

WACO, Texas - Xavier baseball fell in the series opener at Baylor, 7-3, in Waco, Texas, on Friday evening. Trevor Olson went 5.1 innings in his first start of the season for the Musketeers (3-5) allowing just two earned runs, and a three-run sixth inning helped send Xavier to the eighth in a 3-3 tie, but a late rally for the Bears put Baylor ahead for good in the eighth inning. The teams return to action tomorrow afternoon for game two.
Baylor scored a run in the third and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead into the sixth. A three-run top of the sixth gave the Musketeers the lead, and a Baylor run in the bottom of the inning tied the game until the bottom of the eighth. Baylor scored four in the bottom of the frame to set the final score a 7-3 in favor of the Bears.
The Musketeers and Bears are back for game two tomorrow afternoon, facing off at 4:00 p.m ET on ESPN+.

6TH INNING | Jared Cushing led off the inning with a walk, and a one out double from Natale Monastra sent him to third. Cushing and Monastra came home on a Luke Franzoni double to pull even with the Bears 2-2, then Tyler DeMartino singled and a throwing error allowed him to reach second, giving Franzoni the opportunity to score to make 3-2 Xavier,

- Xavier had seven hits on the day, led by two hits from Tyler DeMartino who made his debut for the Musketeers in the game. DeMartino finished 2-of-4 as DH on the day.

- Michael Dillon entered for the final out of the eighth, allowing two hits but with no earned runs against him.
