Mackenzie Tucker Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Midfielder had hand in both Musketeer goals last week

NEW YORK - Xavier women's soccer midfielder Mackenzie Tucker was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Tucker, originally from Versailles, Ky., played a role in both of Xavier's goals in a two-match week.

Tucker picked up her first goal as a Musketeer in Tuesday's outing at Bellarmine, scoring in the 38^th minute on a rocket from about 20 yards out after beating out a defender, which was the eventual game winner in the 1-0 match.

Tucker also helped facilitate Xavier's goal in the 3-1 loss at Tennessee, intercepting a long serve from the box by the UTK goalkeeper and saving the ball from going over the endline, back in front of the goal for Gabrielle LoPresti to finish the goal. Tucker's two points on the season match LoPresti for team high.

This is Tucker's first weekly award and the first of the season for Xavier. The Musketeers are back in action on Sunday, March 7, traveling to Creighton to open BIG EAST play.
