
Baseball Uses 11-Run Eighth to Take Game Two at St. John's

Lane Flamm goes 7.0 innings in start, striking out six and picking up the win
QUEENS, N.Y. -Â Xavier baseball used a big eighth inning to take control of game two at St. John's late, winning 12-3 to even the series at 1-1 with one game remaining.
The Red Storm took a two-run lead in the third and held on to the advantage going into the top of the eighth, with the Musketeers scoring just one run in the first seven innings. Xavier batted around in the eighth, bringing 16 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs to take control of the game, 12-2, with an inning and half remaining. St. John's added on one more run but failed to get any closer, setting the final score at 12-3.
Xavier moved to 10-14 (1-1 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm dropped to 10-6 (1-1 BIG EAST). The series finale is set for Sunday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m.

5TH INNING | Luke Stephenson hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Alex Helmin walked to put two runners on with one out for Garrett Schultz, who singled to the pitcher to bring Stephenson home, cutting St. John's lead to 2-1.
8TH INNING | Luke Franzoni took a lead-off walk, Andrew Sexton reached on a throwing error and Andrew Walker reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs for Jack Housinger. Housinger singled to right field to bring in two runs and put Xavier ahead, 3-2.
Ryan Altenberger reached on a fielder's choice, with Walker out at home, and he and Jack Housinger advanced to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch. Luke Stephenson took a walk to load the bases and Alex Helmin walked to bring in a run, 4-2 Xavier.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Garrett Schultz singled to right field to bring in Altenberger and Stephenson, 6-2 Xavier. Luke Franzoni singled to bring in Helmin, 7-2 Xavier.
