Baseball Falls in Extras in Game Three Against UConn

CINCINNATI - After extra innings forced the game to be suspended due to lack of light in a 13-13 tie, Xavier baseball fell 15-13, to UConn in 12 innings on Tuesday morning.
Xavier took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first but the Huskies responded in the next half inning to send the game to the third tied, 1-1. Xavier added four runs in the third and three in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead in to the fifth inning. After each team added a run in the seventh, Xavier's lead held until a nine-run eighth inning for the Huskies gave UConn its first lead, an 11-9 advantage. The Musketeers responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, sending the game to the ninth tied. After neither team got the winning run across the plate, the game went to extra innings,
In extras, with each inning starting with a baserunner on second base, each team added a solo run in each frame, setting the score at 13-13 at the end of the 11th when the game was suspended due to darkness.
When the game restarted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the 12th inning and UConn scored a pair in the top of the frame and the Musketeers were unable to responded, falling 15-13.
Xavier moved to 15-17 overall and 6-4 in BIG EAST play, while UConn moved to 18-13 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST play with the final game to be played Tuesday afternoon.
1ST INNING | Andrew Walker led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error, then moved to second after a Jack Housinger walk. With one out, Natale Monastra hit a single trhou the left side to score Walker and give Xavier a 1-0 lead.
3RD INNING | Andrew Walker led off the the inning with a single down the left field line, then moved to third on a one-out single from Ryan Altenberger. With two outs in the inning, Luke Stephenson singled through the right side to bring in Walker, putting Xavier back ahead, 2-1. Alex Helmin followed that up with a single up the middle to bring in Altenberger, Xavier 3-1. Garrett Schultz singled to center to score Stephenson, 4-1. A wild pitch with Luke Franzoni at bat allowed Alex Helmin to score, 5-1 Xavier.
4TH INNING | Andrew Walker took a one-out walk, and Jack Housinger was hit by a pitch to put two on for Natale Monastra. Monastra homered to left field, a three-run shot to put Xavier ahead, 8-1.
7TH INNING | With two outs, Luke Franzoni doubled down the left field line, followed by Grant Stephenson doubling to left center to score Franzoni, putting Xavier up 9-2.
8TH INNING | After UConn scored nine in the top of the frame to take the lead, Jack Housinger took a lead-off walk, then moved to third on a Ryan Altenberger double. Natale Monastra reach on a fielders choice, but the throw home was not in time, with Housinger scoring to make it 11-10 UConn. With Altenberger on third and Monastra on first, Alex Helmin reached on an error, allowing Altenberger to tie up the game,11-11.
10TH INNING | With Jack Housinger on second to start the inning, Ryan Altenberger singled through the left side to send him to third, then a Natale Monastra sac fly brought Housinger home, tying the game at 12-12.
11TH INNING | Garrett Schultz was placed on second to start the inning, coming home on a Tyler DeMartino single through the left side.

- Natale Monastra went 3-5 at the plate and brought in five RBI, including three on a fourth-inning homer, his third of the season.
