Swimming Heads to 2021 BIG EAST Championships

Conference Meet runs from Wednesday through Saturday in Geneva, Ohio
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming will head to Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, outside of Cleveland, for the 2021Â BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships presented by Jeep. The meet kicks off Wednesday, April 7Â at 6:00 p.m and runs through Saturday, April 10.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday will each feature a morning prelims session, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and an evening finals session. All session will be available for live stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

Xavier's women look to build on last year's performance where the Musketeers claimed three BIG EAST event titles, including a pair of relays, finishing third overall out of six team. The Musketeers face off with five teams, including Butler, Providence, Seton Hall, and Villanova, as well as conference newcomer UConn. Georgetown will not participate.
Xavier returns all-conference performers in Brooke Atkins (100 back, 400 Medley Relay), Maureen Cummins (200 Free Relay), Lorelei Gaertner (400 Medley Relay), Taylor Hogan (200 Fly, 200 Medley Relay), Erin Merke (200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay) and Lydia Schaeffer (200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay).
FREESTYLE
Xavier's men look for a third-straight title and sixth title overall since joining the BIG EAST after winning the 2019 and 2020 Championships. The Musketeers face off with four teams, including Providence, Seton Hall, and Villanova, as well as conference newcomer UConn. Georgetown will not participate.

FREESTYLE
- In the 50 free, Kali Fischer enters the meet with the top overall time in the conference, 24.20, set during a relay at ISU in Mid-March. Fischer's top time outside of a relay, 24.30, is still within the top five in the conference. Maureen Cummins' top time of 24.53 is also in the top eight in the BIG EAST so far this season.
- Fischer also holts the top time in the 100 free in the conference, 52.11, also set during a relay at ISU. Clara Keiser's time of 53.21 ranks eighth in the BIG EAST.
- Fischer and Keiser both have the top time by Musketeers in the 200 free, with Fischer's time of 1:54.39 at the Butler Invite ranking third and Keiser's time of 1:54.64 from the UC meet ranking fifth in the BIG EAST. Erin Ritz has the seventh best time ot 1:55.45 and Emma Jury and Emma Kauffeld round out the top 10 in the BIG EAST.
- Ritz and Kauffled have the top times by the Musketeers in the 500 free, both ranking top five in the BIG EAST so far this season. Ritz' time of 5:09.77 set at ISU ranks third and Kauffeld's time of 5:10.93 at ISU ranks fourth. Emma Jury's time of 5:15.30 rounds out the top 10 of the conference.
- No times have been recorded for the mile in conference but Ritz and Kauffeld rank fifth and sixth in the BIG EAST distance events based on 1000 free times.
- Kali Fischer, Brooke Atkins and Taylor Hogan give the Musketeers three of the top four times in the 100 back so far this season. Fischer's time of 56.71 set in the Miami dual is the top time in the conference so far in the season. Atkins, who earned All-BIG EAST last season with a second-place finish in the event, has a time of 57.49 set at the Miami Last Chance Meet, which ranks at second. Taylor Hogan has a time of 58.53, set at Bellarmine, which ranks fourth. Maureen Cummins' time of 58.68 also ranks in the top eight, coming in at sixth.
- Fischer also lead the BIG EAST with a top time of 2:02.58 in the 200 back, set at ISU. Brooke Atkins has a time of 2:06.97 set at ISU, which ranks fourth and Taylor Hogan has a top-10 time at 2:08.17.
- Julianne Libler and Alison Herman's top times rank second and third in the conference in the 100 breast, respectively, with Libler setting a 1:04.96 and Herman setting a 1:05.09, both at ISU. Kelly Harris also has a top-10 time at 1:07.02.
- Libler also has the top time by a Musketeer in the 200 breast at 2:23.56, ranking third in the conference. Harris has the sixth-ranked time at 2:24.70 and Herman has a 2:25.60 top time which ranks eighth. Lydia Schaeffer also set a top-10 time at 2:26.79.
- Taylor Hogan has set the top time by a Musketeer in the 100 fly, finishing in 57.20 at ISU for the third ranked time in the conference. Anna Baker and Lorelei Gaertner give the Musketeers two more top-five times at 57.42 and 57.56, respectively. Erin Ritz (58.19)Â and Sophia Romero (58.45) give the Musketeers two more top-10 times.
- Hogan, the reigning BIG EAST Champion in the 200 fly, has the top time by a Musketeer, 2:06.79, so far this season, the third fastest time so far among conference competitors. Emma Jury's time of 2:08.21 ranks fourth in the conference and three more Musketeers: Anna Baker (2:09.24), Sophia Romero (2:10.50) and Lorelei Gaertner (2:10.78) rank in the top-10 in the BIG EAST.
- Alison Herman has the third-ranked 200 IM time in the BIG EAST, setting a 2:07.67 at the Miami dual. Brook Atkins (2:11.58) and Kate Lair (2:11.93) rank sixth and seventh and Sophia Romero has a top-10 time of 2:12.83, all set at ISU.
- Herman and Lair each have a top-three time in the 400 IM, with Herman posting a 4:30.83, the second fastest in the BIG EAST so far this season, and Lair ranking third with a 4:34.12. Taylor Hogan (4:37.48) and Emily Guerrera (4:39.54) each also have top-10 times.
- Xavier, who took the conference title in the 200 free relay in 2020, has the top ranked time in the event so far this season at 1:36.76, swam by Kail Fischer, Lorelei Gaertner, Clara Keiser and Maureen Cummins.
- The Musketeers also claimed a BIG EAST title in the 400 free relay after tying Villanova last season, and enter the conference meet with the second fastest time so far at 3:33.37, set by Fischer, Keiser, Erin Ritz and Gaertner.
- Only one time has been recorded in the conference this season for the 800 free, a 8:11.29 by Butler.
- Xavier's time of 1:46.44 in the 200 medley relay for Brooke Atkins, Alison Herman, Taylor Hogan and Kali Fischer is second fastest so far this season in the BIG EAST.
- Xavier's time of 3:50.47 in the 400 medley is the top time in the BIG EAST entering the conference meet, set by Fischer, Herman, Hogan and Keiser.Â

- Xavier enters the meet with eight of the top 10 times set in the 50 free for the BIG EAST so far this season, let by a 21.08 by Ethan Wing, set during a relay. Roark Lundal (21.23) ranks second and Christian Thomas (21.41), who was all-confernce in the event last season, has a top-three time. Jared Ritz (21.60), Andrew Martin (21.67) and Alex Sironen (21.73) all rank in the top eight while Noah Coomler and Andrew Devine also have top-10 times.
- The Musketeers have six of the top seven times set by BIG EAST competitors in the 100 free, ledy bay Christian Thomas (45.12), Andrew Martin (45.37) and Ethan Wing (45.89) in the top three. Jared Ritz (47.32), Andrew Devine (47.40) and Jon Bernard (47.41) rank fifth through seventh respectively.
- Andrew Martin, who was All-BIG EAST with a second place finish last season, leads the conference with a 1:37.83 200 free time. Jon Bernard's time of 1:42.53 ranks second and Ethan Wing has a top time of 1:43.46 to rank third. Ben Quon, who placed third in last year's conference meet, has a top-eight time of 1:43.74 entering the meet. Nick Mahoney (1:44.12) and Daniel Stroh (1:44.42) are also in the top 10.
- Martin has the top time in the 500 free in the BIG EAST as well, with last year's runner-up setting a 4:27.80. Brett Wilson (4:42.52), Daniel Stroh (4:45.28) and Ben Quon (4:47.45) each have a top six time as well.
- Martin, the reigning BIG EAST Champ in the mile, holds the top time in the mile (15:27.00) and the 1000 free (9:14.82) so far this season. Brett Wilson's time of 9:42.12 in the 1000 free is third in the event in the conference, and Will Serad, who was all-conference in the event last season, ranks fourth with a time of 9:48.07 in the 1000 free. Daniel Stroh set the sixth best time in the 1000 free (9:55.73) also set a time in the mile (16:41.37).
- Xavier holds the top three times so far in the BIG EAST in the 100 back with a 49.69 for Jon Bernard, a 49.77 for Christian Thomas and a 49.98 for Alex Sironen, an all-conference performer in the event in 2020. Ben Quon (51.19), Jack Parker (51.94) and Andrew Devine (52.08) each set top-10 times as well.
- Bernard also has the top time in the 200 back with a 1:48.39 and Sironen ranks second at 1:51.32. Ben Quon (1:53.37), Nick Mahoney (1:53.97) and Andrew Devine (1:55.84) each have top-eight times in the league as well.
- Xavier holds the top three times so far in the conference in the 100 breast, led by Jon Bernard (57.06). Davis Klein (57.65) and Roark Lundal (57.73) rank second and third in the league.
- Bernard, an all-conference performer in the 200 breast last season, also leads the league with a current top time of 2:03.57. Cameron Weese's time of 2:06.59 ranks second in the BIG EAST. Davis Klein also has a top-eight time of 2:12.31.
- Roark Lundal (49.43) and Alex Sironen (50.37) hold the top two times in the league in the 100 fly. Joey Mullen (50.88) and Davis Klein (51.26) each have top-eight times in the league.
- Brett Wilson (1:53.40) has the second-ranked time in the league in the fly. Jack Parker (1:56.01) and Joey Mullen (1:56.04) also rank in the top 10 in the BIG EAST.
- Jon Bernard and Davis Klein hold the top two times in the BIG EAST for the 200 IM, with times of 1:51.95 and 1:54.26, respectively.
- Jack Park holds the top qualifying time in the 400 IM in the conference at 4:03.31. Bernard has the second-ranked time at 4:08.10, Will Serad has a time of 4:14.20, ranking fourth and Cameron Weese ranks seventh at 4:16.38.
- The Musketeers, who tied for first in the 200 Free Relay at the 2020 meet, has a time of 1:22.58 for Ethan Wing, Christian Thomas, Ben Quon and Andrew Martin, ranking first in the BIG EAST.
- Xavier also has the top ranked timed in the 400 free relay at 3:00.91 for Wing, Thomas, Jared Ritz and Martin.
- No times have been set for the 800 free relay in the conference.
- Alex Sironen, Davis Klein, Roark Lundal and Thomas set a time of 1:31.59 in the 200 medley relay which leads the conference.
- Xavier also has the top time in the 400 medley relay, 3:21.54, set by Sironen, Cameron Weese, Lundal and Thomas.
