Musketeers Sweep Series-Opening Doubleheader with a Pair of Shutouts Against Georgetown

Zwack pitched a complete game-shutout in seven-inning game one; Bosacker and Dillon combined for shutout in game two
CINCINNATIÂ -Â Xavier opened up a five-game series against the Georgetown Hoyas with a pair of shutout wins on Friday, taking a 9-0 win in the seven-inning series opener, and taking the 2-0 win in nine innings in game two.
Xavier took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one, and pushed it to 5-0 in the third inning adding four more in the sixth to make it a 9-0 lead, with Xavier's offense fueled by home runs from Alex Helmin, Natale Monastra and Garrett Schultz. Nick Zwack pitched a complete-game shutout for the seven-inning outing, including a perfect game through 5.2 innings and picked up his sixth win of the year.
Xavier jumped out to a two-run lead again in the second inning of game two, which was all the offense the Musketeers would need for the sweep of the doubleheader. Ethan Bosacker and Michael Dillon pitched a combined shutout to kept the Hoyas off the board for the day, with Xavier picking up the 2-0 win.
The Musketeers moved to 21-21 on the year and 12-8 in BIG EAST play. Georgetown fell to 4-19 overall and 4-14 in BIG EAST play. The series will continue tomorrow with a single game, set for 1:00 p.m. and then wrap up on Sunday with a doubleheader set to begin at noon. Game two of Sunday's doubleheader will be a non-conference match-up.
Xavier will celebrate Senior Day ahead of Saturday's game.

2ND INNING | Luke Franzoni led off the inning with a walk, and Garrett Schultz homered to left center to put Xavier ahead 2-0.
3RD INNING | With one out, Natale Monastra hit a solo shot to left center field to put Xavier ahead, 3-0. Luke Franzoni and Garrett Schultz each singled to put two on with one out for Tyler DeMartino. DeMartino hit a sac fly to fight field, bringing Franzoni home, giving Xavier a 4-0 lead. Garrett Schultz stole second and moved to third on an error, allowing him to score on a Jared Cushing single to left field, making it 5-0 Xavier.
6TH INNING | Andrew Walker hit a one-out double and Jack Housinger was hit by a pitch to give Alex Helmin a pair of base runners. Helmin homered to left field to bring in three runs, 8-0 Xavier. Natale Monastra walked, and Trey Schramm entered to pitch run for him. Jackson Kaplowitz walked and Andrew Sexton reached on a fielding error to load the bases. With Jeff Holtz at the plate with the bases loaded, a balk brought Schramm home to make the score 9-0 Xavier.

2ND INNING | Luke Franzoni hit a one out single, moved to second on a wild pitch and then following a Garrett Schultz walk, Franzoni came home on a single from Lane Flamm to put Xavier ahead 1-0. Schultz advanced to third on Flamm's single, then stole home to make it 2-0 Xavier.

- Nick Zwack pitched the entire 7.0 inning outing in game one, not allowing a run, his third complete game of the season and second complete-game shutout of the season. Zwack allowed just a pair of hits after pitching a perfect game through the first 5.2 innings. Zwack struck out eight without allowing a walk and picked up the win, his sixth of the season.
- Ethan Bosacker made the start in game two, going 6.2 innings without allowing a run and giving up just three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six. Bosacker picked up the win to move to 3-3 on the season.
- Michael Dillon entered for the final out of the seventh, pitching the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit with no walks, striking out one to preserve the shutout. Dillon picked up the save, his first as a Musketeer.
