Xavier moves on to the BIG EAST Tournament held at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio

OMAHA, Neb. - Xavier baseball finished the final series of the regular season at 2-2 against the Creighton Bluejays after falling 3-2 in the series finale on Saturday at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Xavier earned a bid to the BIG EAST Championship and will open up play at 6:30 PM on Thursday, May 27 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The bracket will be revealed following the conclusion of the BIG EAST regular season on Saturday.

Creighton struck first with a run in the the third inning, and the Musketeers responded immediately with a run in the fourth, sending the game to the fifth in a 1-1 tie. Xavier added a run in the fifth to take its first lead of the day, 2-1, but the Bluejays responded in the bottom half of the inning to draw even again at 2-2.

The tie held until the bottom fo the eighth when the Bluejays got a run across to take the 3-2 lead. The Musketeers were unable to respond in the ninth to set the final score at 3-2 in favor of Creighton.

The Musketeers move 25-24 overall and finish the BIG EAST schedule at 15-11. Creighton moved to 23-13 overall and 15-6 in conference play.

SCORING RECAP

4TH INNING | Andrew Walker and Natale Monastra hit back-to-back singles with one out. Walker stole third then came home on a Lane Flamm sac fly to tie the game at 1-1.

5TH INNING | Garrett Schultz walked to lead off the inning, moved to second on a sac bunt from Sam Olson and came home on a single to right field for Jack Housinger, putting Xavier ahead, 2-1.

XU AT THE PLATE

Andrew Walker went 2-4 at the plate with a double, coming around to score a run.
Garrett Schultz went 1-2 with two walks, scoring a run for the Musketeers.
Jack Housinger (1-3, 1 BB) drove in an RBI for the Musketeers in the fifth inning. Housinger batted .385 for the series with the Bluejays and extended his on-base streak to 11 games.
Lane Flamm brought in an RBI with a sac fly in the fourth inning.
Jared Cushing collected another hit (1-4), batting the .529 (9-17) for the series against Creighton and has a team-best seven-game hit streak.
Luke Franzoni extended his on-base streak to 11 games with a walk.

XU ON THE MOUND

Trevor Olson made the start, going 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out three while walking just one.
Jack Lynch entered for the seventh, going 1.1 innings, allowing one earned run on a hit and a pair of walks.
Trey Schramm entered for the final two outs of the eight, not allowing a run and giving up just one hit. Schramm's appearance was his 99th as a Musketeer, matching Mike Creevy (2004-08) for the most all-time appearances in Xavier history.
