Jolly Leads Musketeers to Season-Opening Victory Over Panthers

The sophomore midfielder found the back of the net in the 80th minute
CINCINNATI - Jerome Jolly found the back of the net in the 80th minute, leading the Musketeers to a 1-0 season-opening victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday night at Corcoran Field. Xavier has now won four straight season openers.

• Jerome Jolly scored his second career goal (and his first game-winning goal) in the 80th minute. The sophomore midfielder found the back of the net off his own corner kick, hitting the side of the post before falling into the back of the net.
• Xavier held a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Musketeers also took seven more corner kicks (12-5) than the Panthers. Eastern Illinois committed three more fouls (11-8) than Xavier.
• Felix Boe-Tangen, Paul Bogarin and Karsen Henderlong each had three shots to pace the Musketeer attack.
• Matthew Rosenberg (1-0) made one save on the night and increased his career total of shutouts to 17.
• Seven Musketeers played all 90 minutes: Matthew Rosenberg, Payton Miller, Paul Bogarin, Jansen Miller, Pol Hernandez, Taylor Crull and Cameron Belle.
• Xavier moved to 3-2-1 in the all-time series vs the Panthers. The Musketeers also improved to 22-8-4 in non-conference home matches since 2013.
• The Musketeers return to action on Sunday, Aug. 29 vs IUPUI. First touch is set for 6 p.m. from Corcoran Field.
