Xavier defeats IUPUI, 3-1; Jolly scores second game-winning goal of season

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer moved to 2-0 on the year following a 3-1 win over IUPUI on Sunday night at Corcoran Field. Jerome Jolly scored his second game-winning goal in as many matches to help Xavier seal the victory.

IUPUI dropped to 0-1-1 following the loss. The Musketeers also moved to 6-0-1 in the series history with the Jaguars.

NOTABLE

• Jerome Jolly scored his third career goal in the win and his second game-winning goal in as many matches. The midfielder has 12 points (three goals, six assists) in 11 career matches at Xavier.

• Karsen Henderlong scored his first goal of the season and 15th goal in a Xavier uniform. The forward also added his first assist of the season, moving his career total to four.

• Justus Kauppinen scored his second career goal in a Xavier uniform and his first goal of the season. He also added an assist.

• Xavier held a 11-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. IUPUI had one more corner kick (3-2) than the Musketeers and committed six more fouls (14-8).

• Justus Kauppinen, Karsen Henderlong and Pol Hernandez paced the Musketeer attack with two shots each.

• Matthew Rosenberg (2-0) made one save on the night. He now has a 0.50 goals against average through two matches.

• Six Musketeers played all 90 minutes: Matthew Rosenberg, Payton Miller, Jansen Miller, Pol Hernandez, Taylor Crull and Cameron Belle.
