Men's Tennis Opens Spring with In-State Foes Ohio State and Dayton

Musketeers open season on Wednesday at Ohio State, continue play at Dayton on Friday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis will open up the spring dual schedule for 2022 with a pair of road trips to in-state opponents, facing Ohio State on Wednesday, January 19, at 5:00 p.m., then traveling to Dayton on Friday, January 21, for a 7:00 p.m. match.

- Ohio State will open its spring season against Toledo on Wednesday morning before facing the Musketeers at 5:00 p.m.
- The Buckeyes went 22-4 overall and 15-1 in a Big Ten only regular season.
- OSU picked up wins over Michigan State and Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament before falling to Illinois in the championship match.
- Ohio State took wins over VCU and Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament before falling to TCU in the NCAA Round of 16.
- The Musketeers last faced Ohio State in 2019-20, falling 7-0 in Columbus.

- Dayton is 0-3 after opening the spring season with a pair of matches at No. 12 Kentucky, falling 5-0 in the opener on Saturday, January 15 and 4-0 later that afternoon. UD also fell, 6-1, to Louisville on Tuesday afternoon.
- The Flyers went 13-6 last season, including a 2-0 mark in the A10.
- UD picked up a 4-2 win over Saint Louis in the A10 Championship before falling to Richmond in the semifinals.
- Xavier fell 7-0 to the Flyers in Cincinnati last season.

FALL RESULTS |
- Xavier men's tennis wrapped up the fall tournament schedule at the CSU Viking Invite, picking up 18 wins, with Diego Nava advancing to the finals in the singles main draw, and taking home back draw titles in both singles and doubles.
- The Musketeers collected 15 singles wins through three days, led by four each for Diego Nava and Marco Pennelli. In the main singles draw, Nava advanced to the championship match with four straight wins, finishing runner-up with a 4-1 singles record for the weekend.
- After falling in the opening round in the main draw, Marco Pennelli picked up four-straight wins to win his draw, also finishing the weekend 4-1.
- In doubles action, Shashank Reddy and Nick Loudermilk won the back draw, picking up wins over Youngstown State and Cleveland State.

- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
