Musketeers fall 6-1 to the Buckeyes; Xavier is back in action on Friday at Dayton

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Xavier men's tennis opened the spring dual season on Wednesday evening, facing the Ohio State Buckeyes. The spring opener was highlighted by a top-25 win for Diego Nava, who picked up a point in No. 1 singles as the Musketeers fell, 6-1.

Xavier is back in action on Friday, traveling to Dayton on Friday, January 21, for a 7:00 p.m. match.

THE MATCH

Ohio State took the double point with a 6-1 win over Charlie Temming and Pascal Mosberger in the No. 3 spot, then a 6-3 win over Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill in the No. 1 spot. Brett Winters and Cambell Nakayama trailed 5-2 in the No. 2 spot when the point was decided.

OSU picked up a second point in the No. 2 singles spot with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Ryan Cahill, and went ahead 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Brett Winters in the No. 3 spot.

The deciding match came in the No. 4 singles spot, a 6-3, 6-3 win over Charlie Temming. The Buckeyes picked up two more points, in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, against Marco Pennelli, and in the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2 against Cambell Nakayama.

The final decision came on the No. 1 court, with Diego Nava taking a 7-5, 6-4 win against No. 15 Cannon Kingsley, the highest ranked win for a Musketeer in program history.
