Women's Tennis Heads to Memphis to Play Tigers, South Florida

Musketeers face Memphis at 3:30 PM on Friday, Bulls on Saturday at 11 AM
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis heads to Memphis this weekend for a pair of matches, taking on the Tigers on Friday at the Eldon Roark Tennis Club, then returning Saturday morning to face the South Florida Bulls.
Following the trip to Memphis, Xavier (2-1) will return home for four-straight matches, starting with Virginia Tech on Friday, February 4 and Michigan State on Sunday, February 6.

MEMPHIS |
- Memphis enters the match at 3-1 in dual matches this season, picking up a pair of 7-0 wins against North Alabama to start the season, and a 7-0 win against Central Arkansas. The lone loss was a 4-1 setback against Mississippi State.
- Memphis went 6-14 last season, with a 1-4 record in AAC play.
- The Tigers fell 4-1 in the first round of the AAC Championship to No. 46 Tulsa.
- Xavier fell 5-2 last season to the Tigers, with the Musketeers taking the doubles point and Ahmeir Kyle taking the win in the No. 1 spot over No. 72 Sophie Abrams.

SOUTH FLORIDA |
- The Bulls are 1-1 on the season, with a 7-0 win against Florida A&M and a 7-0 loss to No. 20 Florida.
- South Florida went 8-15 last season, with a 1-3 record in AAC matches.
- The Bulls beat UC in the first round of the AAC Tournament, 4-1, before falling to No. 8 ranked Central Florida, 4-1, in the quarterfinals.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- Xavier's women's tennis moved to 2-1 on the season with a 7-0 setback against Purdue on Saturday.
- In doubles, Xavier picked up a win on the No. 2 court for Kat Lyman and Anne-Sophie Courteau, 6-3, but Purdue picked up a 6-4 win on the No. 1 court, 6-4, against Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham and then secured the point with a 7-6 win over Blessing Nwaozuzu and Anna Smith on court No. 3.
- Purdue picked up a second point on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-2, against Anna Roggenburk, and went up 3-0 on court No. 5 with a 6-1, 7-5 win against Blessing Nwaozuzu. The Boilermakers sealed the win, going up 4-0, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anne-Sophie Courteau on No. 6.
- Purdue picked up a two set win on the No. 4 court, 6-3, 6-2 against Anna Smith.
- Imani Graham took the match to three sets on No. 1 but fell 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Kat Lyman also went to three sets on court No. 3, but fell 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 to set the final score at 7-0 in favor of Purdue.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- Xavier returned seven letterwinners from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including Ahmeir Kyle and Anna Roggenburk, who were were unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
- Roggenburk also earned the nod as Freshman of the Year for the conference while Kyle became the first Musketeer to qualify for the NCAA DI Singles Championship.
- The Musketeers also return all-conference honoree Kat Lyman, who earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
- Xavier added a pair of newcomers as well in graduate transfer Anna Smith, joining the Musketeers from Marshall, as well as freshman Bella Kirby.
- The Musketeers also added a mid-year transfer in graduate student Anne-Sophie Courteau. She comes to Xavier from West Virginia, where she collected over 75 combined wins in four seasons, including 44 singles wins and 34 doubles wins.
