Men's Tennis to Play a Pair of Matches this Weekend

Musketeers will host Ball State in rescheduled match on Friday, travel to Indiana on Sunday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis takes a four-match win streak into a two-match weekend, opening up with Ball State on Friday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Eastern Hills, rescheduled from February 4. Following the match with the Cardinals, Xavier travels to Indiana to face the Hoosiers on Sunday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m.
Following the match with the Hoosiers, the Musketeers will be back in action on March 4 against Eastern Illinois at Eastern Hills.

- Ball State is 4-2 on the season, picking up wins over Eastern Illinois and Cleveland State to open the season, and Dayton and Butler in their last two match-ups. Cardinals fell to No. 6 Virginia and MTSUÂ at the end of January.
- The Cardinals went 17-5 last season, with a 6-4 record in MAC play.
- The MAC did not hold a league tournament last season.
- Xavier fell 7-0 to Ball State in last season's match-up.

- Indiana is 3-3- on the season with wins over Toledo, Bellarmine and Yale and losses to Princeton, ETSU and MTSU. The Hoosiers will face Butler on Sunday ahead of the match with the Musketeers.
- The Hoosiers went 7-10 overall and 6-9 in a Big Ten only regular season.
- In the Big Ten Tournament, IU picked up a 4-0 win over Wisconsin in the first round before falling 4-0 to Illinois in the Quarterfinals.
- Xavier last faced Indiana in 2019-20, a 4-0 loss for the Musketeers in Bloomington.

- Xavier men's tennis picked up a fourth-straight win, topping IUPUI 6-1 on Friday afternoon to move to 4-2 on the season.
- Xavier took the 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. Charlie Temming and Shashank Reddy took the first decision, a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court, their third win as a duo for the season. Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill took the No. 1 court, 7-6 (3) after battling through tie-breakers, moving to 4-2 on the season. Brett Winters and Cambell Nakayama were tied 6-6 on the No. 2 court when the point was decided.
- Pascal Mosberger picked up the first singles win to make it a 2-0 Xavier lead, taking the No. 6 court, 6-2, 6-4.
- Brett Winters made it a 3-0 lead for the Musketeers, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 2 court, his second straight singles win, to move to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in the No. 2 spot.
- Diego Nava, who was rated No. 64 in the most recent ITA Rankings, moved to 6-0 in the season, all in the No. 1 spot after taking the 7-5, 6-2 win, clinching the match with the score at 4-0.
- Ryan Cahill made it a 5-0 Xavier lead on the No. 3 court with his fifth singles win of the season, a 7-6 (8), 6-2, moving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the No. 3 spot.
- Charlie Temming picked up the final point for the Musketeers, taking the No. 4 court with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-1 win for his second singles win of the season.Â
- The final decision came on the No. 5 court, a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win against Marco Pennelli.

- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
