Women's Tennis Picks up 4-3 Win over Virginia Tech

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis closed out the weekend schedule with a tightly-contested win, taking the 4-3 victory over Virginia Tech on Monday at Five Seasons, in a match rescheduled from Friday. With the match tied 3-3, Ahmeir Kyle came back after falling in the first set to take No. 1 singles in three sets, picking up the match-clinching point for the Musketeers. Xavier moved to 4-3 on the season with the win.
Xavier returns to Eastern Hills for its next match, hosting Penn State on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m.
In doubles action, Xavier split the first two decisions, with Anne-Sophie Courteau and Kat Lyman taking the 7-5 win on the No. 2 court and Anna Smith and Anna Roggenburk falling 7-5 on the No. 3 court.
The No. 1 court came down to tiebreakers with Ahmeir Kyle and Imani Graham taking the 7-6 (4) win to pick up the point and put the Musketeers ahead, 1-0.
In singles play, Xavier picked up a pair of two set decisions, with Imani Graham winning 6-0, 7-5 on the No. 2 court and Anna Smith winning 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 5 court.
Virginia Tech picked up three two-set wins, a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Anna Roggenburk on court No. 3, a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kat Lyman on court No. 4, and a 6-4, 6-1 win against Anne-Sophie Courteau in No. 6 singles to set the match score at 3-3 with just No. 1 singles left to finish.
After falling in the first set on court No. 1, Ahmeir Kyle battled through tiebreakers in the second set to force a third set, where she picked up the 6-4 win to take the 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision to make it a 4-3 win for the Musketeers.
Xavier returns to Eastern Hills for its next match, hosting Penn State on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m.
