Men's Tennis Heads to East Lansing, Mich., for a Pair of Matches

CINCINNATI -  Xavier men's tennis heads to East Lansing, Mich., this weekend where the Musketeers will face Niagara on Thursday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m. and Michigan State on Friday, March 18 at noon.
Following the trip to Michigan, Xavier will return home to host Villanova on Friday, March 25 at 1:30 p.m.

- Niagara enters the match at 7-4 overall, coming off a 6-1 win over St. Bonaventure.Â
- The Purple Eagles went 3-8 last season with an 0-6 record in the MAAC.
- NU did compete in a conference tournament.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- The Spartans are 11-5 on the season, coming off a 4-2 win over Princeton.
- The Spartans went 6-14 overall and 5-13 in a Big Ten only regular season.
- MSU took a 4-2 win over Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament before falling 4-0 to Ohio State.
- Xavier last faced MSU in 2018-19, falling 4-2 in the season opener.

- Xavier men's tennis erased a 2-0 deficit to pick up a 5-2 win over BIG EAST foe Creighton, winning a third straight match on Monday, March 7.
- In doubles action, Creighton picked up a 6-2 win over Charlie Temming and Shashank Reddy on the No. 3 court, then secured the point with a 6-4 win over Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill on the No. 1 court.
- The Bluejays made it a 2-0 lead with the first singles decision, a 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 5 court against Marco Pennelli.Â
- Charlie Temming picked up the first Xavier point, taking a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 4, and Diego Nava tied he match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 1 court, moving him to 9-0 on the season.
- Xavier moved in front 3-2 with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 on No. 3 for Ryan Cahill before Brett Winters clinched the match on No. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, making it 4-2 Xavier.
- Caden Kammerer picked up the final decision, a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win in No. 6 singles to set the final score at 5-2 in favor of the Musketeers.

- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
