Women's Tennis Hosts Saint Francis on Saturday

Musketeers and the Red Flash will face off at noon outdoors on Xavier's campus
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis returns to campus on Saturday to host Saint Francis, taking on the Red Flash at 12:00 p.m. at the Jim and Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility.
Following the match with SFU, the Musketeers will next be in action on Saturday, March 12, traveling to Columbus to take on Ohio State at 3:00 p.m.

- The Red Flash are 6-7 on the season with wins over Morgan State, Longwood, Colgate, Niagara, St. Bonaventure and Mercyhurst. SFU also plays Northern Kentucky on Friday evening before facing the Musketeers.
- St. Francis went 6-11 overall last season, with a 2-3 record in NEC play.
- This is the first match-up between the two programs.

- Following a 2-0 weekend in the No. 1 doubles spot, Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas were named the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, the league announced on Thursday.
- Kyle, a graduate student from St. Joseph, Mich., and Thomas, a senior from Cincinnati, helped the Musketeers secure the doubles point against ETSU on Friday, earning a 6-3 win on the No. 1 court in a tightly contested 4-3 loss to the Bucs.
- The pair then helped the Musketeers bounce back on Sunday, picking up the first decision in favor of Xavier on the way to taking the doubles point in the eventual 5-0 win over the Indiana Hoosiers. Thomas and Kyle combined for a 7-5 win over the No. 56 ranked duo of Laura Masic and Lara Schnieder in No. 1 doubles.
- This is the duo's first weekly award as a pair. Kyle was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week for the week of 2/9/2022.

- Xavier women's tennis picked up a win to close out last weekend, topping the Indiana Hoosiers, 5-0, in Bloomington on Sunday.
- In doubles play, Kat Lyman and Anne-Sophie Courteau fell 7-5 on the No. 3 court in the first decision, but Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas took a 7-5 decision on the No. 1 court to draw even with the Hoosiers. Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham battled through tiebreakers to take a 7-6 (3) win on the court No. 2, giving Xavier the doubles point and the 1-0 lead.
- Blessing Nwaozuzu took a 6-3, 6-1 win on the No. 6 court to make it a 2-0 advantage and Anna Roggenburk made it a 3-0 advantage on the No. 4 court, winning 6-2, 6-0.
- Imani Graham's 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 2 court and Ahmeir Kyle's 7-5, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles pushed the advantage out to 5-0 in favor of Xavier.
- When the match was decided, Kat Lyman led in a third set, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0, on the No. 3 court and Anna Smith was ahead in the second set after falling in the first 2-6, 4-3 in No. 5 singles.

- Xavier returned seven letterwinners from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including Ahmeir Kyle and Anna Roggenburk, who were were unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team.Â
- Roggenburk also earned the nod as Freshman of the Year for the conference while Kyle became the first Musketeer to qualify for the NCAA DI Singles Championship.
- The Musketeers also return all-conference honoree Kat Lyman, who earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
- Xavier added a pair of newcomers as well in graduate transfer Anna Smith, joining the Musketeers from Marshall, as well as freshman Bella Kirby.
- The Musketeers also added a mid-year transfer in graduate student Anne-Sophie Courteau. She comes to Xavier from West Virginia, where she collected over 75 combined wins in four seasons, including 44 singles wins and 34 doubles wins.
