Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with BIG EAST Road Trip

Musketeers face Marquette on Friday at 7 PM ET, DePaul on Saturday at 4:30 PM ET
CINCINNATI - Â Xavier men's tennis closes out the regular season on the road, facing a pair of BIG EAST foes in Marquette and DePaul on Friday and Saturday. The Musketeers face the Golden Eagles on Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET, before closing out the regular season with a 4:30 p.m. ET match against the Blue Demons on Saturday.
Following the match with DePaul, Xavier will travel to the BIG EAST Championship, held in Cayce, S.C. from Friday, April 22 - Sunday, April 24.

- Marquette enters the match at 6-14 overall with a 2-3 record against BIG EAST teams. MU fell 4-3 to St. John's in the last outing.
- The Golden Eagles went 10-7 last season, going 3-1 against BIG EAST squads in the regular season.
- MU topped Villanova, 4-1, in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals before falling to St. John's 4-2, in the semis.
- Xavier fell 5-2 to Marquette last season, picking up wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 singles spots in Cincinnati.

- DePaul enters the match at 9-11 overall with a 4-0 mark against BIG EAST opponents, coming off three straight BIG EAST wins against Creighton, Marquette and Butler. The Blue Demons face Notre Dame on Wednesday ahead of the match with Xavier.
- The Blue Demons went 15-7 overall last year, with a 3-1 record against the BIG EAST in the regular season.
- DePaul took a 4-0 win over Georgetown in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals, a 5-0 win over Butler in the Semifinals and a 4-3 win over St. John's in the BIG EAST Championship match to take the conference title and earn a bid to the NCAA Championships.
- The Blue Demons fell, 4-1, to Illinois in the NCAA First Round.
- Xavier fell 5-2 to DePaul last season, picking up wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

- After picking up the match-clinching point against Butler, Xavier men's tennis graduate student Diego Nava was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week.
- Nava, originally from Woodland Hills, Calif., took down Butler's Thomas Brennan at the No. 1 singles slot, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 4-6 in the final decision of the match. The win improved Xavier's record to 3-0 in BIG EAST play this season and moved Nava to 12-1 in singles play.
- This is Nava's fourth Singles Player of the Week honor of the season.

- Xavier men's tennis picked up a 4-3 win over Butler on Friday at Eastern Hills Tennis Club. The Musketeers moved to 11-6 on the year, including an 8-0 record at home and 3-0 in BIG EAST action.
- In doubles action, Xavier won two of the three matches. On the No. 1 court, Diego Nava and Ryan Cahill defeated Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huete Vadillo, 6-2. On the No. 3 court, Charlie Temming and Marco Pennelli earned a 6-2 victory over Ryan Roegner and Zach Trimpe.
- Diego Nava took a three-set win on the No. 1 singles court, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 6-4, his 12th single win of the season.
- Xavier also collected wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 single spots. Marco Pennelli and Caden Kammerer both earned three-set victories.

- The Musketeers returned eight letter-winners from last season, including Brett Winters, who competed primarily in Xavier's No. 1 singles spot, as well as regular singles players Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy and Aaron Thompson. Dominic Macaluso, Pascal Mosberger and Jake Zipoli also return for Xavier.
- Xavier added five newcomers, including a three-person freshman class, Ryan Cahill, Marco Pennelli and Charlie Temming.
- The Musketeers newcomers also included a pair of transfers, Nick Loudermilk from College of Charleston and Diego Nava from Loyola Marymount.
