Baseball Opens Up Georgetown Series with 4-1 Win

Head coach Billy O'Conner picks up win No. 100 as a head coach
WALDORF, Md. - Xavier baseball scored three runs in the ninth inning to break up a 1-1 tie, taking a 4-1 win in game one at Georgetown. With the win, head coach Billy O'Conner hits 100 wins for his head coaching career.
Xavier took the 1-0 lead in the third inning after Ethan Hodge hit a one-out single to right field, and Jack Housinger hit a single to center field to drive him in from second base.
The Hoyas responded with a run in the fifth inning, on a solo home run, to put the game into a tie that held into the ninth inning. With one out in the top of the ninth, Jared Cushing singled to right field, and Jeff Holtz singled through the left side, then both advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Jared Cushing came home on a wild pitch to pu the Musketeers in front, 2-1.
Jerry Huntzinger and Jack Housinger both walked to load the bases and a Luke Franzoni single to right center drove in two more runs to set the final score at 4-1.
The Musketeers and the Hoyas return to action on Saturday, set for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch at Regency Furniture Stadium.
