Women's Tennis Advances to BIG EAST Semifinals with Win Over Georgetown

CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis took a 4-1 win over No. 6 seed Georgetown in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals on Friday evening to advance to Saturday's Semifinals in Cayce, S.C.
Xavier, the No. 3 seed, advances to the BIG EAST Semifinals to face No. 2 seed Marquette on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Musketeers have advanced to at least the Semifinal round each season since Xavier joined the BIG EAST for the 2013-14 season.
Xavier faced Marquette last weekend, falling 4-3 last Friday evening, with wins for Imani Grahama, Kat Lyman and Emily Thomas in singles play.

In doubles action, Xavier took the the point after Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham took a 6-1 win on the No. 2 court and Kat Lyman and Anna Smith took a 7-6 win on the No. 3 court. Emily Thomas and Ahmeir Kyle were up 6-5 on the No. 1 court when the point was decided.
Imani Graham quickly mad it a 2-0 Xavier lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 2 singles court and Kat Lyman pushed it toa 3-0 Xavier lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 3 court.
Georgetown made it a 3-1 lead with a 7-5, 6-4 win on the No. 1 court against Ahmeir Kyle.
Anna Smith took a 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 5 singles to secure the win for the Musketeers at 4-1.Â
Emily Thomas was in the second second set, 6-4, 1-5 on No. 6 and Anna Roggenburk was leading in a third set on the No. 4 court, 2-6, 6-2, 2-1 when the match was decided.
