Women's Tennis Advances to BIG EAST Championship Match

Musketeers will face No. 4 seed DePaul for the fifth time in the conference title match
CAYCE, S.C. - Xavier women's tennis took a 4-1 win over No. 2 seed Marquette in the BIG EAST Semifinals to advance to the BIG EAST Title match, set to be played on Sunday at 1:00 PM on FloSports.
Xavier will face No. 4 seed DePaul in the conference title match, marking the fifth time the Musketeers have faced the Blue Demons for the title, with each team winning a pair of conference championships in the four prior match-ups. DePaul is 9-8 on the season after topping No. 1 seed St. John's 4-2 in the Semifinals. Xavier faced the Blue Demons in the regular season finale, picking up a 4-3 win.
The semifinal win marks the third-straight time Xavier has advanced to the Championship of the BIG EAST tournament (2019, 2021) and fifth time overall since joining the conference.

Marquette took the first doubles decision, a 6-0 win over Ahmeir Kyle and Anne-Sophie Courteau on the No. 1 court. Xavier drew even with a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court for Kat Lyman and Anna Smith, then secured the point with a 6-3 win for Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham on court No. 2.
In singles play, Kat Lyman used a quick 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 3 court to push Xavier to a 2-0 lead.Â
Xavier pushed the lead out to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win for Anna Smith on court No. 5
The Golden Eagles picked up a point with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Ahmeir Kyle on the No.1 court to set the score at 3-1 in favor of Xavier.
Anna Roggenburk battled to a 7-5 win in the first set to win the No. 4 court, 7-5, 6-2, clinching the match for the Musketeers at 4-1.
Imani Graham led 6-2, 6-5 on No. 2 and Blessing Nwaozuzu was leading in a second set after falling in the first, 6-3, 5-6 on court No. 6 when the match was decided.
