Xavier Uses Long Ball to Complete Season Sweep of Michigan
05.10.22 | Baseball
ANN ARBOR, MIÂ -Â With a convincing 10-3 road victory over Michigan, Xavier has now won their last three games by a total of 27 runs, and put their last five games in the win column. It was the gopher ball that did the damage for the Musketeers as four balls left the yard, two by Jerry Huntzinger.
It was a slow start for the bats as the first run didn't come until the third inning, but it was one for the good guys as Jeff Holtz continued his hot streak, homering on the first pitch he saw in today's ball game. Luke Franzoni homered in the fourth to pad the lead, and Andrew Walker added an RBI single to put Xavier in front 3-0.
Michigan didn't back away yet, as they got two back in the bottom half, but they wouldn't get any closer as Xavier outscored the host 7-1 in the late innings. Four RBIs came on the two Huntzinger big fly's, and in between Franzoni hit an RBI double and later scored. When the dust settled, Xavier outscored Michigan 18-5 in both games to take the season sweep.
Xavier is back in action on Friday against UConn, their final road series of the regular season.
