Luke Franzoni homers in seventh-straight game

STORRS, CT. - After a dominant victory on Friday, the Musketeers fought from behind in Game Two. While they held the Huskies in check for the majority of the matchup, a six-run first inning from UConn was enough to even the series and force a deciding Game Three tomorrow.

UConn responded from the upset yesterday with a six-run first inning and got another in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead. In the fourth, Luke Franzoni hit a solo shot in the fourth, his seventh-straight game with a home run, but UConn scored again in the bottom half to maintain the seven-run advantage.

The Huskies added on again in the seventh, but the Musketeers scored in the eighth with a Jerry Huntzinger triple and a Jack Housinger sacrifice fly. UConn got two more insurance runs in the eighth, and a Lane Flamm RBI single in the ninth wrapped up the scoring as UConn won 11-3.

The Musketeers and the Huskies face off in a rubber match tomorrow at 1:00 pm ET.

AT THE PLATE

Xavier and UConn each had 11 hits today, but the Musketeers could only capitalize for three runs.
Jerry Huntzinger went 2-4 with a triple and a run scored, and Garrett Schultz went 2-3 with a double.
Luke Franzoni just had the one hit, a home run in the fourth to put Xavier on the board and vault him two second place in the NCAA with 23 home runs this season.
Jack Housinger went 1-2 with a single, an RBI sac fly, and a walk.
Eddie Rivero notched a pinch-hit double and later scored in the ninth.
Lane Flamm saw one pitch today and turned it around for an RBI single.
Aedan Anderson, Grant Stephenson, and Jared Cushing also collected base hits.

ON THE MOUND

Jonathan Kelly got the start and allowed seven runs in 1.0 innings, but he did pick up a strikeout.
Xander Rojahn was good in relief, going 3.0 innings and allowing just one run with three strikeouts.
Connor Bailey pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings with a strikeout and just one baserunner allowed.
Justin Loer finished the sixth inning by getting a strikeout and a groundout but allowing a run in the interim.
Miles Halligan allowed a hit in the seventh, but no runs came across.
George Eisenhardt pitched the eighth and allowed to Huskies to cross the plate.
