STORRS, CT. - It was Xavier's last time batting first in the regular season, and two big early innings from UConn allowed the Huskies to take the series win. Xavier got close with a four-run fifth, but UConn would not be denied on their Senior Day.

Like yesterday, UConn had a major first inning to take the driver's seat in today's game. Five runs in the first and six runs in the third were more than enough for the Huskies today. Andrew Walker homered in the second, and Grant Stephenson hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning, but the Musketeers found themselves in an early 11-2 hole.

Xavier got four back in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a two-out UConn error to rally with a two-RBI Lane Flamm double, a Grant Stephenson RBI single, and a Jared Cushing RBI triple to get within five. However, it would be their last runs on the road this season as UConn scored six more runs across the final frames to take the win 17-6.

The Musketeers play Northern Kentucky at home on Tuesday before hosting St. John's this weekend to wrap up the regular season.

AT THE PLATE

Xavier collected 11 hits for the second consecutive day, with five Musketeers having multi-hit outings.
Andrew Walker was 2-4 with a game-opening solo home run in the second to start Xavier's offense.
Lane Flamm went 2-3 with a two-RBI double in the fifth.
Grant Stephenson went 2-2 but reached base three times and collected two RBIs.
Jared Cushing went 2-4 with an RBI triple.
Luke Franzoni had another multi-hit game, going 2-3 and reaching base four times with the help of two additional walks.
Garrett Schultz scored twice in a 1-4 performance.

ON THE MOUND

Jared Gadd got the start and gave up five runs in the first inning.
Bryce Barnett came in in the second at stayed for 1.2 innings, allowing six runs, and striking out one Husky.
Jack Lynch finished the inning but walked two and hit a batter in the interim.
Trevor Olson had the longest outing today, going 2.2 innings, allowing two runs and picking up a strikeout.
Justin Loer had the best outing, going 1.1 scoreless innings and also securing a strikeout.
Miles Halligan allowed two runs in the eighth inning.
