Xavier Gets Revenge Over Northern Kentucky
05.17.22 | Baseball
The scoring started early as Jerry Huntzinger walked to lead off the game, stole second and then third before getting driven in by Luke Franzoni. Later in the inning, Alex Helmin hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded to give Xavier a 3-0 advantage.Â
The Musketeers were just getting started as a nine-run second inning followed. It started with an Andrew Walker RBI single followed immediately by a Jared Cushing RBI double. Matt DePrey was the next batter, and he unloaded a three-RBIÂ home run, and still before recording another out Jerry Huntzinger connected on a grand slam. After two innings, Xavier led 12-0.
Northern Kentucky fought back with two in the third and three in the fourth, but Xavier kept their foot on the gas with five runs of their own in the fourth. Jackson Kaplowitz hit a sacrifice fly to get himself in the statbook, and Jack Housinger hit a two-RBI double. Luke Franzoni capped the inning with yet another home run on an already historic season. JAck Housinger got Xavier's final RBI in the fifth with a single, and two more runs for the Norse in the seventh would not be enough as Xavier would win 18-7 after seven.
The Musketeers play St. John's this weeked as they wrap up the regular season.
