CINCINNATI, OH - It was another complete performance from the Xavier staff on Friday, as the Musketeers cruised to a 9-3 victory in the penultimate game of the season. Trevor Olson was the winning pitcher, going five scoreless innings as Xavier slowly built up their lead.

St. John's struck in the first inning with a quick run off starter Jonathan Kelly, but Xavier responded with three runs in the bottom of third. Grant Stephenson hit a ground-rule double, which set up Lane Flamm to score on a wild pitch, and then Jerry Huntzinger hit a sac fly to score Stephenson.

The Red Storm evened the score with two runs in third, but Xavier countered with two of their own in the bottom half. With traffic on the base paths, Garrett Schultz hit an RBI groundout and Flamm immediately singled home another as Xavier regained the lead.

In the fifth, with the bases loaded, Schultz wore a hit by pitch to cash in a run, and Jared Cushing recorded a sac fly to score another. With the score 7-3 in the seventh, Cushing left the yard with a two-run bomb to give Xavier their last runs, a lead that would hold at 9-3.

The Musketeers celebrate Senior Day tomorrow at noon as they go for the sweep against St. John's.

AT THE PLATE

Jared Cushing was the big bat today, going 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Lane Flamm was strong too, going 2-2 with an RBI and scoring twice. He reach base all four times with the help of two walks.
Andrew Walker scored three times in a 2-3 performance.
Grant Stephenson had a base hit and recorded two RBIs with a run.
Jerry Huntzinger and Garrett Schultz each had a hit and an RBI, while Tyler DeMartino had a hit with a run scored.

ON THE MOUND

Jonathan Kelly drew the start and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing three runs off four hits and striking out three.
Trevor Olson carried the bulk of the workload, going five full innings without allowing a run. He had a strikeout and allowed just four baserunners.
Connor Bailey closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, picking up a strikeout along the way.
