Baseball Sweeps St. John's After Taking 3-2 Win in Rain Shortened Game

Xavier earns the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship, opens play on Thursday against Creighton
CINCINNATI, OH -Â After falling behind 2-0, Xavier baseball used a three-run fifth inning to move in front of the St. John's, holding the lead as the game went to a weather delay. The game was eventually called, with the Musketeers winning 3-2 in five innings.
St. John's picked up runs in the third and fourth innings to take the lead into the fifth. Jared Cushing and Jerry Huntzinger singled to give Xavier two runners with one out, and Jack Housinger hit a ground-rule double to bring in Cushing to cut the lead in half. Luke Franzoni hit a two-RBI single to bring in Huntzinger and Housinger to put the Musketeers in front as the teams headed to the sixth.
Shortly after the sixth inning began, the game was delayed due to weather, then eventually called after an hour and 40 minute rain delay, reverting back to the last complete inning.
Xavier earned a spot in the 2022 BIG EAST Championship where the No. 3 seed Musketeers open up play with No. 2 seed Creighton on Thursday evening, with the game starting no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
