Diego Nava Opens Up NCAA Singles Championships Play on Monday against No. 23 Alexandre Reco

Nava, No. 81 in the most recent ITA Rankings, will face Reco of Arkansas at 2 PM ET

URBANA, Ill. - Diego Nava will open up NCAA Singles Play on Monday, afternoon, taking on Alexandre Reco of the University of Arkansas in the opening round. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. ET at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the University of Illinois in Urbana, Ill. and will be live streamed through the TennisONE app.
Nava, who was ranked No. 81 in the most recent ITA Rankings, was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection after going 13-3 in singles in dual play in 2022, playing in the No. 1 spot. Navaa graduate student from Woodland Hills, Calif., won his first nine decisions of 2022, including a win over top-15 ranked Cannon Kingsley of Ohio State, was ranked as high as No. 52 in the ITA singles rankings during the season, and became the first Musketeer to earn a spot in the NCAA Singles Championships. Throughout the 2022 season, Nava was named BIG EAST Player of the Week four times.
Nava's opponent, No. 23 Alexandre Reco played in the top singles and doubles position for Arkansas for the entire 2022 season, compiling a 10-11 singles record. Five of those wins over ranked opponents, including straight-set wins over No. 28 Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss and No. 31 Florian Broska of Mississippi State. Reco closed the season on a four-match singles winning streak and was leading in each of his singles matches in the SEC Tournament when the match was halted.

The winners of the opening round match will move on to face the winner of the first round match between No. 4 Liam Draxl of Kentucky and No. 61 Eduardo Nava of Wake Forest, Diego Nava's brother. The second round is set for Tuesday, May 24 with time TBD.
