Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Play with Win at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - A first half goal from Natalie Bain and a fifth shutout for the Musketeer defense helped Xavier women's soccer pick up the 1-0 win at Butler on Thursday evening. The Musketeers moved to 7-2-1 on the season, and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.
Xavier held the advantage on offense in the first half, taking a 9-3 lead on shots, including a 4-1 lead on shots on-goal before the half. Midway through the first half, one of the looks on-goal, a header from Natalie Bain off a free kick from Rachel Dewey, found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead which the Musketeers took into the break
In the second half the Bulldogs offense turned up the pressure creating four shots, two on-goal, in the first 15 minutes of the second period. Butler ended up with an 8-6 advantage on shots overall in the second 45, but each team had three shots on-goal in the period. Goalkeeper Maria Galley collected all three Bulldogs shots on-goal to pick up the clean sheet and help the Musketeers secure the win.
The Musketeers return home to host DePaul at Corcoran Field on Sunday, September 25 at 1:00 p.m.
