Men's Tennis Opens Home Schedule with Northern Kentucky

Musketeers and Norse set for a 5:00 p.m. start at Eastern Hills
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis opens the home schedule on Friday, Jan. 20 hosting Northern Kentucky at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis as part of a double header with the women's teams. The men are set for a 5:00 p.m. start, following the women who play at 2:00 p.m.
Following the match against NKU, Xavier returns to the road, facing Cleveland State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:00 p.m.

 NORTHERN KENTUCKY |
- The Norse are 2-1 to open the season, taking a 6-1 win over Bellarmine and a 4-3 win over EKU. NKU fell, 4-0, to No. 2 Ohio State.
- Northern Kentucky went 6-11 last season with a 1-7 record against Horizon League teams.
- NKU fell, 4-1, to UIC in the Horizon League Quarterfinals.
- Xavier took the 4-3 win over the Norse last season in Crestview Hills, Ky.

- Xavier opened up the spring dual season on Sunday, taking on No. 2 Ohio State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Musketeers fell, 7-0, to the Buckeyes.
- In doubles play, Ohio State took wins on No. 2, 6-0, over Cambell Nakayama and Kyle Totorica, and on No. 3, 6-1, over Jorge Santamaria and Marco Pennelli, to claim the point. Ryan Cahill and Deacon Thomas trailed 3-2 in the No. 1 spot when the point was decided.
- Xavier fell 6-0, 6-0 on both the No. 6 court, with Jorge Santamaria, and the No. 5 court with Marco Pennelli, to put the Buckeyes up 3-0. A 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court against Kyle Totorica sealed the match win for the Buckeyes.
- Deacon Thomas battled with No. 90 Alexander Bernard on the No. 2 court, falling 6-0, 6-4, Cambell Nakayama fell 6-1, 6-0 on the No. 3 court and Ryan Cahill dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision the No. 1 court to set the final score at 7-0.

- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy,  Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
