The Musketeers advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014
BOYDS, Md. -Â Xavier men's soccer captured its first BIG EAST Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The Musketeers and No. 3 Georgetown played to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of action (two overtime periods). Xavier defeated the Hoyas, 5-4, in penalty kicks to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.
Xavier moves to 9-3-6 on the year, while the Hoyas move to 13-2-3. The Musketeers are 5-0-5 in their last 10 matches.

• Xavier moved to 5-6-2 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament matches. the Musketeers snapped a four-game losing streak vs the Hoyas. Xavier is now 2-2-1 vs nationally ranked opponents this season.
• Georgetown held a 13-7 advantage in shots and took three more shots on goal (8-5). Xavier held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks and committed three fewer fouls (12-9).
• Guilherme Vivaldini paced the Musketeers with three shots (two on goal). Cooper Forcellini, Taylor Rhinehart and Michael Rogalski each added a shot on goal..
• Jonny Mennell (9-3-6) made a career-high seven saves and recorded his ninth shutout of the season. The Asheville, N.C., native now has a 0.77 goals against average on the year with 59 saves. The 0.77 goals against average ranks third in single-season school history, while the nine shutouts ranks tied for second.
• Xavier has not allowed a goal for 463 straight minutes. The Musketeers have not allowed a goal since Oct. 21 at Villanova.
• Xavier is 5-0-5 in its last 10 matches with a 0.29 goals against average and seven shutouts. The Musketeers have only allowed three goals during that span. Nine different players have scored during the team's 10-match unbeaten streak, paced by Guilherme Vivaldini and Grayson Elmquist who each have two goals.
• Xavier won its first BIG EAST Championship in program history (joined the conference in 2013). The Musketeers also won the Atlantic-10 Tournament Titles in 2010 and 2011.
• Xavier punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. The Musketeers also competed in the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Xavier is 3-4 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches.
