Men's Tennis Heads to Muncie, Ind., to Face Ball State on Friday

Musketeers and Cardinals face off at 2 PM
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's travels to Muncie, Ind., this weekend to take on Ball State, looking for a third-straight win. The Musketeers (6-2) take on the Cardinals on Friday, February 17, set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
Next weekend, the Musketeers will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, February 24, set for a 3:00 p.m. start.

- Ball State is 5-3 on the season, with wins over Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Butler, Niagara and Purdue.
- Ball State went 10-11 overall with a 5-5 record in MAC play last season.
- The Cardinals fell, 4-1, to Toledo in the MAC Semifinals.
- In last season's match-up, Xavier took the 5-2 win in Cincinnati.

- Xavier went undefeated last weekend after taking a 4-3 win over Toledo at Mercy Health - Anderson on Sunday afternoon to move to 6-2 on the season.
- In doubles play, Toledo took the point with wins on the No. 2 court against Pascal Mosberger and Cambell Nakayama, 7-6 (4), and on the No. 3 court, 7-6 (5), against Jorge Santamaria and Marco Pennelli. Ryan Cahill and Deacon Thomas won 6-3 on the No. 1 court.
- Xavier collected wins on the No. 2 court, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, for Deacon Thomas, on the No. 3 court for Cambell Nakayama, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Musketeers also won on the No. 5 court for Marco Pennelli, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and on the No. 6 court for Jorge Santamaria 6-0, 6-1 to seal the win.
- Toledo took wins on the No. 1 court, 6-4, 6-0, against Ryan Cahill, and on the No. 4 court 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 against Kyle Totorica to set the score at 4-3.

- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy,  Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
