Men's Tennis Faces Purdue on Friday

Musketeers and Boilermakers set for a 3 PM start in West Lafayette
CINCINNATI - No. 61 Xavier men's travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, February 24, set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
Next weekend, Xavier hosts Southern Indiana and Creighton on Saturday, March 4 at Eastern Hills.

- Purdue enters the match at 1-7 with a win over IUPUI this season.
- The Boilermakers went 9-15 last season with a 2-7 record in Big Ten play.
- Purdue fell, 4-3, to Michigan State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

- Xavier men's tennis fell 6-1 at Ball State on Friday afternoon, moving to 6-3 on the season.
- In doubles play, Ball State took a 6-3 decision over Ryan Cahill and Deacon Thomas on the No. 1 court, a 6-2 decision on the No. 2 court against Cambell Nakayama and Pascal Mosberger, and a 6-3 decision on the No. 3 court, against Charlie Temming and Jorge Santamaria to secure the point.
- In singles, BSU made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kyle Totorica on court No. 4 and a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jorge Santamaria on the No. 6 court. A 6-3, 6-4 win over Marco Pennelli on the No. 5 court sealed the match win for Ball State.
- Ball State took a 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court against Ryan Cahill and a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (8-10), 1-0 (10-0) win on the No. 3 court against Cambell Nakayama.Â
- Xavier picked up a point on the No. 2 court, a 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (5) win for Deacon Thomas.

- Xavier moved in the ITA team rankings, coming in at No. 61. It marks the first time Xavier has been ranked since February 2013, when Xavier came in at No. 73.
- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy,  Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
