Women's Tennis Heads to Michigan State for a Pair of Matches

Xavier faces MSU on Friday at 10 AM, Illinois State on Saturday at noon
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis travels to Michigan State to face the host Spartans and Illinois State this weekend, facing MSU on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10:00 a.m and Illinois State on Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon.
Next weekend, Xavier is set to host Southern Indiana on March 4 at Eastern Hills.

- The Spartans are 4-2 on the season with wins over Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green and Marquette.

- After picking up a win over a ranked opponent, Xavier women's tennis freshman Abby Nugent was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week.
- Playing from the No. 3 spot, Nugent captured the first ranked win of her collegiate career, defeating No. 125 Ines Oliveira of James Madison in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
- Nugent's victory on the singles court was supplemented with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles with teammate Kat Lyman as Xavier narrowly defeated James Madison, 4-3.

- Xavier picked up a 4-3 win over James Madison on Sunday at Eastern Hills.
- In doubles, JMU took the first decision, a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court against Anna Roggenburk and Imani Graham. Kat Lyman and Abby Nugent combined for a 6-2 win on the No. 1 court, and Emily Flowers and Paulina Franco Martinessi took a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court to seal the win.
- Abby Nugent made it a 2-0 Xavier lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 125 Ines Oliveira on the No. 3 court.

 THE MUSKETEERS |
- The Musketeers wrapped up the 2022 spring season at 14-10 overall, brought home the program's third overall and second-straight BIG EAST Championship and earned Xavier's third bid to the NCAA Championships.
- Five letterwinners return from last season's BIG EAST Championship squad, including All-BIG EAST selection Imani Graham, Kat Lyman, Anna Roggenburk, Blessing Nwaozuzu and Bella Kirby.
- Xavier also added four-person freshman class, Emily Flowers, Paulina Franco Martinessi, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski.
