Xavier Collects a Pair of Event Championships on Day Two of BIG EAST

Andrew Martin wins 500 free; Men take the 200 free relay title
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Xavier men's and women's swimming wrapped up day two of the 2023 BIG EAST Championships with a pair of event titles and a new school record for Andrew Martin. The men moved to within half a point of first place, while the women moved up to fifth.
Day three of the four day championship beings on Friday at 10 a.m. with prelims, with finals set for 5:45 p.m.

BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY 2 by Xavier Musketeers on Exposure

WOMEN'S NOTABLE |
- Emma Swabb led Xavier in the 500 free, placing third in the consolation final to score in 11th place with a time of 4:58.92. Clara Keiser also took place in the B-Final, placing 13th and Alexis Worrall, Erin Ritz, Sydney Smith and Mary Sweetman all scored in the bonus final.
- Kali Fischer placed sixth in the Championship final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.43. Hannah Pugh also took part in the Championship final, placing eighth. Brooke Atkins took part in the consolation final, placing 14th overall, while Amy Van Son and Julianne Libler took part in the bonus final.
- Olivia Oyster and Clare Bosse took part in the Championship final of the 50 free, with Oyster placing fourth with a time of 23.38 and Bosse placing eighth with a time of 23.64. Sophia Romero and Reese Turner took part in the bonus final, scoring for the Musketeers.
- Olivia Oyster, Clare Bosse, Sophia Romero and Kali Fischer placed fourth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.82.
- The Musketeers moved up to fifth place after six racing events and a diving competition they did not compete in.

MEN'S NOTABLE |
- After besting his own school record and setting an NCAA B-Cut time in the prelims of the 500 free, Andrew Martin posted a new school-record, and NCAA B-Cut, time of 4:18.88 in the Championship final to win his third-straight BIG EAST title in the event. His time was less than half a second off the BIG EAST record in the event. Nathan Wall scored in 10th place in the consolation final, while Brett Wilson and Adam Lamping placed 13th and 14th respectively.
- Michael Benington collected a bronze medal in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 1:48.63. Jon Bernard, Jack Parker and Aiden Neuman placed fifth through seventh respectively. Davis Klein and Will Serad scored for the Musketeers in the consolation final.
- Ethan Saunders led four Musketeers in the Championship final of the 50 free, tying for third with a time of 20.55. Gage Hannewyk placed fifth, Kyle Hudson finished sixth and Roark Lundal scored in eighth. Ethan Wing and Aiden Leamer scored for the Musketeers in the B-Final.
- Ethan Saunders, Gage Hannewyk, Kyle Hudson and Andrew Martin closed out the night with a BIG EAST Championship in the 200 free relay, the fifth straight conference title in the event, and the eighth for the Musketeers since joining the BIG EAST.
- Xavier's men jumped up to second place, just .5 behind first place Georgetown, after six racing events and a diving event in which the Musketeers did not compete.
