Men's Tennis Closes Out the Regular Season with Home Matches against Marquette, UIC

Musketeers host Golden Eagles on Friday, face UIC on Senior Day, set for Saturday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis wraps up the regular season with a pair of home matches at the Jim and Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Facility, starting with Marquette on Friday, April 14, set for a noon start, before facing UIC on Senior Day, set for Saturday, April 15, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Following the match with the Flames, Xavier will honor seniors Cambell Nakayama, Shashank Reddy, Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
Xavier heads to Cayce, S.C., next week to take part in the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament, set to begin on Friday, April 21. Match-ups will be announced next week.

- Marquette is 6-13 overall on the season with a 2-3 record in conference matches.

- UIC is currently 8-12 on the season and will face DePaul on Thursday before facing the Musketeers.
- UIC went 5-19 overall and 2-6 in Horizon League matches.
- The Flames took a 4-1 win over Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League Quarterfinals before falling 4-1 to No. 1 seeded Youngstown State in the Semifinals.
- Xavier last played the Flames in 2008, a 4-3 win for UIC in Chicago.

- Xavier men's tennis fell 6-1 to Butler on the road on Saturday to move to 11-7 on the season.
- In doubles play, Butler secured the point with a 6-0 win over Ryan Cahill and Shashank Reddy on court No. 1, and a 6-3 win over Pascal Mosberger and Cambell Nakayama on court No. 2.
- Butler picked up five singles wins, taking No. 1 6-1, 6-2 against Ryan Cahill, No. 3, 7-6, 6-4 against Cambell Nakayama and court No. 4, 6-3, 6-1, against Pascal Mosberger. Butler also took a 6-0, 6-3 win against Kyle Totorica on court No. 5 and a 7-5, 6-3 win over Marco Pennelli on court No. 6.
- Deacon Thomas picked up a point for the Musketeers on court No. 2, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (8) to set the final score at 6-1.

- Xavier stands at 11-7 overall with a 1-3 record against BIG EAST teams.
- For the week of Feb. 20, Xavier moved in the ITA team rankings, coming in at No. 61. It marked the first time Xavier was ranked since February 2013, when Xavier came in at No. 73.
- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14.
- Among the returners from last year's team are All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Ryan Cahill, as well as Marco Pennelli, Charlie Temming, Cambell Nakayama, Pascal Mosberger, Shashank Reddy, Aaron Thompson and Jake Zipoli.
- Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
