Musketeers and Huskies will wrap up series with doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon

CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball fell, 7-6, to No. 20 UConn at Hayden Field on Friday afternoon in game one of a three-game series with the Huskies. The Musketeers moved to 21-13 overall, ending a program-best 11-game win streak, and are now 3-1 in BIG EAST play.

A solo home run put the Huskies ahead in the second, and UConn took the 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, a walk for Carter Hendrickson and a single from Jared Cushing put a pair on for Alex Helmin, who cleared the bases with a shot to right field.

A pair of UConn runs tied it up in the fifth but the Musketeers posted another three run inning in the bottom of the frame with Jack Housinger leading off the inning with a solo home run and Jared Cushing hitting a two-RBI single, bringing in Matthew DePrey and Tyler DeMartino.

Two-run innings for UConn in the both sixth and the seventh moved the Huskies in front, 7-6. The Musketeers would get the tying run aboard in each fo the final three innings, but were unable to bring in the run, setting the final score at 7-6.

The Musketeers and the Huskies wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15, due to rain forecasted for Sunday. Game one is set to start at noon. Xavier's head shaving event, part of the Vs. Cancer campaign, will follow the second game on Saturday.

ON THE MOUND

Ethan Bosacker went 5.1 innings in the start, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, striking out five while giving up just one walk.
Justin Loer entered with one on and one out in the sixth, and went the final 3.2 innings of the game, allowing two earned runs on four hits, finishing with four strikeouts with no walks.

AT THE PLATE

Alex Helmin posted a three-RBI day at the plate, collecting all three and run scored on a three-run homer in the fourth, his second home run of the season.
Jack Housinger finished with an RBI and a run scored after hitting his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to right to lead off a three-run fifth inning for the Musketeers.
Jared Cushing went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Tyler DeMartino (2-5, 1 R) and Matt McCormick (2-4, 1 BB) recorded multi-hit games.
Matthew DePrey also record a hit and a run for the Musketeers.
