Men's Tennis Opens BIG EAST Tournament Play Against No. 3 Seed Georgetown

No. 6 seeded Musketeers face Hoyas at 4:30 PM on Saturday in Cayce, S.C.
CAYCE, S.C. - No. 6 seed Xavier men's tennis opens BIG EAST Tournament play against No. 3 seeded Georgetown in the Quarterfinals action on Friday, April 21. The Hoyas and the Musketeers are set to get underway at 4:30 p.m. at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Musketeers enter the post season at 12-8 overall with a 2-3 record against BIG EAST opponents. Last year's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after earning the No. 3 seed, the program's highest seed in the BIG EAST Championship since joining the conference in 2013-14. The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season.
The winner of the match between the Hoyas and the Musketeers will advance to the Semifinals where they will face the winner of the match between No. 2 seed St. John's and No. 7 seed Marquette.

- The 2023 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 20-23.
- Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the seventh consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.
- Seeds for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
- Sunday's Men's Championship match will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) on FloSports. Live coverage of the Men's Championship will begin on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, following the Women's Championship.

- Georgetown enters the postseason at 11-8 overall with a 4-2 record in BIG EAST matches to earn the No. 3 seed.
- The Hoyas fell, 4-3, to Butler in the Semifinals in last season's BIG EAST Championships.
- The Musketeers and the Hoyas last faced off in February 2020, with GU taking the 4-3 win in Cincinnati.

- Xavier wrapped up the regular season with a 4-0 loss to UIC, moving to 12-8 on the season.
- In doubles play, Xavier took a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court, with Kyle Totorica and Jake Zipoli picking up the win.Â
- The Flames took a 6-3 win on the No. 2 court over Deacon Thomas and Marco Pennelli then secured the point with a 6-4 win over Shashank Reddy and Cambell Nakayama.
- The Flames won singles on No. 2 against Cambell Nakayama, 6-3, 6-1. UIC also took a win on No. 5 against Kyle Totorica, 6-4, 6-2. UIC also took a point on No. 6, a 6-0, 6-3 over Jake Zipoli.

- Xavier stands at 12-8Â overall with a 2-3 record against BIG EAST teams following the regular season
- For the week of Feb. 20, Xavier moved in the ITA team rankings, coming in at No. 61. It marked the first time Xavier was ranked since February 2013, when Xavier came in at No. 73.
- The 2021-22 Musketeers finished the season at 12-9 overall, the most wins since the 2015-16 season. - Xavier also added a trio of newcomers, including transfer Jorge Santamaria, as well as freshmen Deacon Thomas and Kyle Totorica.
