Ethan Bosacker Pitches Complete Game in Win Over Villanova

Xavier opens series with 8-4 win, set for game two on Saturday at 1 PM
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. -Â Ethan Bosacker put together a complete game victory on the mound to help Xavier baseball to an 8-4 win in the series opener at Villanova. Xavier moves to 23-15 overall and 5-2 in BIG EAST play with the win.
Xavier took the lead early, scoring a pair of runs in the first on a hit and four walks, with Jack Housinger and Matthew DePrey scoring, and Jared Cushing and Alex Helmin picking up the RBIs. Xavier extended the lead to 3-0 after Grant Stephenson turned a lead-off walk into a run in the second, and made it a 6-0 lead on a three-run homer from Matt McCormick in the fourth.
The Musketeers kept the Wildcats off the board until the sixth, when VU scored a pair on a two-run homer, but the Musketeers got the runs back in the next inning, scoring two on three hits with RBIs for Teddy Deters and Grant Stephenson.
VU picked up a run in the seventh and one more in the ninth, setting the final score at 8-4. Starter Ethan Bosacker went the full 9.0 innings, the first complete game by a Musketeers since the 2-15 season.
Xavier and Villanova continue the three game series on Saturday, with game two set for a 1:00 p.m. start.

- Ethan Bosacker posted the first complete game of his Xavier career, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 9.0 innings. Bosacker struck out seven while issuing just one walk, and picked up the win to move to 5-1 on the season.
- Bosacker's compete game was the first complete nine inning game by a Musketeers since March 22, 2015, when Trent Astle went the full 9.0 in a 2-1 Xavier win at Lipscomb.
