Cincinnati took the early lead with a pair of runs in the first, taking the 2-0 lead into the third.
In the top of the third, Grant Stephenson led off the inning with a single, followed by Jack Housinger reaching on an error. Matthew DePrey hit an RBI single to get Xavier on the board, and Andrew Walker, Tyler DeMartino and Matt McCormick each drove in an RBI in three-hit inning for the Musketeers, giving Xavier the 4-2 lead.
A solo home run in the fourth cut the Xavier lead back to one, 4-3, but the Musketeers got the run back in the next frame, with Andrew Walker leading off with a single, stealing second, moving to third on a ground ball and coming home on a sacrifice bunt from Carter Hendrickson to extend the lead back to two, 5-3.
Cincinnati scored a pair of runs in the sixth to tie it up, but Xavier again responded in the next half inning, with Andrew Walker leading off with a solo home run to put Xavier back in front, 6-5. After Walker's homer, Connor Misch got aboard after being hit by a pitch and eventually came home on an RBI single from Alex Helmin to make it a 7-5 Xavier lead.
In the seventh UC moved back in front, scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 8-7 lead into the ninth.
In the final frame, the Musketeers got the go-ahead run aboard, with three runners reaching safely, but Xavier was unable to bring the run in, setting the final score at 8-7 in favor of the Bearcats.
