CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer played Wright State to a 1-1 tie on Thursday afternoon at Corcoran Field. The match served as the season opener for both programs.

NOTABLE

• Sohei Matsumori scored his first Xavier goal in the 85th minute. The junior midfielder scored off his own free kick from five yards outside the right side of the 18-yard box.

• Xavier took five more shots (11-6) than Wright State, including four more shots on goal (6-2). Fabrizio Bernal de la Garza (two shots, two shots on goal) and Sohei Matsumori (two shots, one shot on goal) led the Musketeers in shots.

• The Raiders committed seven more fouls (17-10) than Xavier and took one more corner kick (5-4). Wright State had three yellow cards, while Xavier had one yellow card.

• Jonny Mennell (0-0-1) made his first career start in goal, recording one save in 90 minutes of action.
