Jerome Jolly scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute

CINCINNATI - Jerome Jolly delivered the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, leading the Musketeers to a 1-0 victory over Cleveland State on Monday night at Corcoran Field.

The Musketeers improved to 2-1-1 on the year, while the Vikings dropped to 1-2-1.

Jolly found the back of the next off a deflected save by the Cleveland State goalkeeper (following a shot by Taylor Rhinehart from the left side of the field). The Garstang, England, native did a bicycle kick to score the goal, the first goal of the season for Jolly and the eighth of his career.

Xavier was playing a man down when Jolly scored the game-winning goal. The Musketeers played the final 26 minutes of the match with only 10 players on the field.

NOTABLE

• Xavier held a 15-9 advantage in shots and took two more shots on goal (8-6) than the Vikings. Xavier also took one more corner kick (5-4) than Cleveland State and committed three more fouls (13-10).

• Taylor Rhinehart led the Musketeers with three shots (two on goal), while Fabrizio Bernal de la Garza, Jerome Jolly, Makel Rasheed and Guilherme Vivaldini each added two shots.

• Jerome Jolly now has 25 career points (eight goals, nine assists), including four game-winning goals.

• Jonny Mennell (2-1-1) made a season-high six saves between the pipes. The Asheville, N.C., native also posted the first clean sheet of his career.

• Defenders Dylan Kropp and Makel Rasheed and goalkeeper Jonny Mennell were the only three Musketeers to play the entire 90 minutes on Monday night.
