Men's Tennis Travels to Columbus for Sunday Afternoon Match with Buckeyes

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis goes back out on the road to wrap up the week, heading to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday, January 21, set for a 2:30 p.m. start.

The Musketeers are 0-2 after opening the season with losses at EKU and Louisville.

OPPONENT INFO

Ohio State will open the season on Sunday morning, facing Eastern Illinois at 10 a.m. ahead of the match with Xavier.
The Buckeyes were national runner's up last season, going 34-3 overall. Ohio State won the Big Ten Tournament title and picking up NCAA Tournament wins over ETSU, Louisville, Arizona, Georgia and TCU to advance to the Championship match. OSU fell to Virginia in the finals.
Xavier faced Ohio State last season, with the Buckeyes taking the 7-0 win.

LAST TIME OUT

The Musketeers fell, fell, 6-1, at Louisville on Wednesday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Cardinals clinched the point with a 6-2 win on the No. 1 court, against Ryan Cahill and Pascal Mosberger, and a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court, against Charlie Temming and Alex Adamec.
UofL moved ahead 2-0 with a win over Kyle Totorica on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-2, and made it a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Charlie Temming on the No. 3 singles court.
The Cardinals clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Cristian Gonzalez on the No. 6 court.
After the match was decided, Louisville picked up two more points, a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court against Ryan Cahill, and a 6-3, 7-5 win on No. 2 court against Pascal Mosberger.
On the final court, Marco Pennelli picked up a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win in No. 4 singles to set the final score at 6-1.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Xavier opens up home play next week, hosting Ball State at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club on Wednesday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m.
The Musketeers will head across the river on Saturday, January 27 to face NKU at 4:00 p.m.

THE MUSKETEERS

Xavier returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished the season at 12-9 overall.
The 2022-23 season marked a second-straight season with 12 wins, the first time the program had back-to-back 10-plus win season since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The Musketeer returners include Ryan Cahill, Pascal Mosberger, Marco Pennelli, Jorge Santamaria, Charlie Temming and Kyle Totorica.
Xavier also added a pair of freshmen, Alex Adamec and Cristian Gonzalez.
