Elizabeth Pendergast advances to Quarterfinals in the Singles Main Draw

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Xavier women's tennis wrapped up a strong showing at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, hosted by MTSU, with a Championship match appearance for Clara Owen and Abby Nugent in the Doubles Bracket, and a Quarterfinals appearance for Elizabeth Pendergast in the Singles Bracket. For the event, the Musketeers collected 18 wins total, with 11 singles victories and seven doubles wins.

Xavier's back in action at the Michigan State Invite, set to run from Friday, Oct. 25 to Sunday, Oct. 27 in East Lansing, Mich.

SINGLES PLAY

Elizabeth Pendergast advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Main Draw, opening up play with a win over Purdue's Ece Gencer, 6-7 (8), 6-1, 6-1, in the Round of 64. In the Round of 32, Pendergast took a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over Leyla Britez Risso of Tennessee, then defeated Kentucky's Ellie Myer, 6-2, 7-6 (2), in the Round of 16 to advance to the final eight. In the Quarterfinals, Pendergast fell to ETSU's Daniela Rivera, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Madeleine Rexroat earned a spot in the main draw after taking a 6-2, 6-0 win over Miami (Ohio)'s Nishitha Saravanan in the opening round of the Qualifying Draw, then taking a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Ksenija Rage of ETSU in the Qualifying Draw's Round of 32. In the Main Draw, Rexroat defeated Tara Katarina Milic of Purdue, 6-0, 6-3, in the Round of 64, before falling to Louisville's Lika Persypkina 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the Round of 32.

Competing in the Main Draw, Abigail Siminski defeated Belmont's Anastasiya Zholdakova, 6-1, 6-4, before falling to Bridget Stammel of Vanderbilt, 6-3, 6-1, in the Round of 32.

Abby Nugent pick up a win in the Round of 64 in the Main Draw, defeating Ball State's Sarah Shahbaz, 6-1, 6-0. Nugent fell to Vanderbilt's Valeria Ray, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 32.

Emily Flowers fell, 6-3, 6-0, to Lipscomb's Marilia Dolzhenko in the Main Draw's Round of 64. In the consolation bracket, Flowers defeated Sara Watanabe from UC, 6-4, 6-2, in the Round of 32, before falling to Tennessee's Vanesa Suarez, 6-0, 6-3, in the Round of 16.

Sofia Mazzucato fell to Purdue's Carmen Gallardo Guevara, 6-3, 6-1, in the Main Draw Round of 64, before picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Chloe Bailey of IU Indy in the Main Draw Consolation Bracket.

Natalie Smitek fell, 6-2, 6-4, to Tennessee's Sami Yli-Piipari in the opening round of the Qualifying Bracket, and picked up a win over Emilia Valentinsson of Miami (Ohio), 1-6, 6-3, 10-5, in Saturday's extra matches.

Ellie Brotherton fell to Alyssa Cameron of NKU, 6-2, 6-2, in the Qualifying Bracket's Round of 64.

DOUBLES PLAY

Clara Owen and Abby Nugent opened up doubles play with an 8-3 win over Indiana's L'allier and Swierczynska, in the opening round, then advanced to the Round of 16 with a 8-4 win over Bruns and Bohlen of Austin Peay. The duo defeated Tennessee's Thornton and Yan, 8-6, to advance to the Quarterfinals, then earned a spot in the Semifinals with an 8-3 win over Caceres and Rivera of ETSU.

In the Semifinals, Owen and Nugent took a 6-4, 7-5 win over Tennessee's Suarez and Britez Rissso to earn a spot in the Championship match.

In the Championship match, the Musketeers finished runners-up, falling to Tomase and Aulia of Tennessee, 6-4, 6-0.

Elizabeth Pendergast and Emily Flowers opened up doubles play with an 8-4 win over MTSU's Swarbrick and Truden, before falling, 8-4, to Louisville's Otis and Iila in the Round of 32.

Abigail Siminski and Madeleine Rexroat took an 8-4 win in the Round of 64 over Ball State's Malkyh and Brown. The pair fell in the Round of 32 to Suarez/Britez Risso of Tennessee, 8-1.

Sofia Mazzucato and Ellie Brotherton fell to Ball State's Shahbaz and Tanjuatco, 8-6, in the Round of 64.
