Women's Tennis Heads to Michigan State Classic this Weekend

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's tennis travels to East Lansing, Mich., this weekend, taking part in the Michigan State Classic, Presented by Auto Owners Insurance, for the final full-team event of the fall tournament schedule.
The tournament gets underway on Friday, Oct. 25 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 27 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.

TOURNAMENT INFO
- Xavier is one of five teams at the event, joining the Spartans, Michigan, Notre Dame and Northwestern. Each school sends four players to compete in the daily draws with singles and doubles matches both occurring throughout the day.
- Â The matches take place at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center, all beginning at 10 a.m. each day. While the schedule is subject to change, each day will contain both singles and doubles matches from all five teams.Â
- Xavier is sending Elizabeth Pendergast, Natalie Smitek, Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato. All four will compete in singles, and will pair up for doubles, with Pendergast and Flowers competing together, and Smitek and Mazzucato playing together.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Select student-athletes will take part in the ITA Conference Masters Championships, played in San Diego from Nov. 7-10, competing for a bid to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which will run Nov. 19-24, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns six student-athletes from last year's BIG EAST Championship squad, including juniors Emily Flowers, Abby Nugent and Abigail Siminski as well as sophomores Ellie Brotherton and Sofia Mazzucato. Senior transfer Elizabeth Pendergast will make her debut as a Musketeer this season.
- The 2023-24 Musketeers wrapped up the season at 19-6, the most wins since the 2018-19 season. Xavier took home the program's fifth BIG EAST Championship and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Championship.Â
- Xavier added a trio of freshmen to the roster, Clara Owen, Madeleine Rexroat and Natalie Smitek.
